Pryor Heisman Hype Overblown?

Our evil doppelganger over at Eleven Warriors claims Terrelle Pryor as a front runner for the Heisman Trophy.  Really, there are lots of people who are talking about TP as a legitimate contender for the Heisman.  I don't disagree that TP is getting the most Heisman hype of any other player in the conference.  I also don't dispute that TP will be the leader of one of the best, if not the best team in the Big Ten.  However, for Pryor to deserve serious consideration as the nation's best player he will have to show substantial improvement from 2008.  I'm not discounting Pryor as a candidate, however, we need to cool down the rhetoric of Pryor being the Nation's best player as he wasn't the even the best player in the Big Ten last year let alone the country.

I'll give you his 60% completion percentage is great and 12 TDs to 4 Ints is a good ratio.  Also, over 630 yards rushing and 6 rushing TDs isn't anything to sneeze at, especially, as he averaged 4.5 yds/carry.  Before we give TP real consideration for the Heisman we will have to see him play with consistency especially against good defenses and while on the road.  I'm not saying that TP can't earn consideration as college football's best player, however, nothing last year demands that we deem him one of the best players in the country before 2009 begins.  Also, consider that 7 of Pryor's TD passes came in two games (Troy and NW)

Also, I don't hear anyone pimping Clark for the Heisman and, (gasp), Clark's numbers are better than Pryor's are from 2008.  Clark passed for 19 TDs, nearly 2600 yards, 10 rushing TDs.  To be fair, Clark did throw 6 Ints. and didn't run for nearly as many yards as TP.  However, DC-17 was definitely the better QB in the 2008 season and he will be the better player in 2009.

Ummm....Lame

Apparently, this is why Seniors didn't sell out all their tickets, and it is incredibly lame.

I mean honestly:

But it's just too much responsibility, too big of a burden. I'm a rising senior, I'm 21, and I'm too old for this!

The responsibility of waking up for noon kickoffs when you've been out all night before, and all you want is one more hour of sleep, is too much, and you have to pace yourself for the night games, staying till the end of blowouts, and being able to remember who played well and who got embarrassed.

Really?  Too big a burden? Where is that coming from?

Lame.

Let no act of ours bring shame....

Student Tix Still Available! (wait, what?)

The Collegian is reporting that Student tickets are still available!

The reports are that Senior tickets were still available when they closed yesterday and that not all of the Junior tickets have been sold either (though it is still open).

Apparently the university is pleased because the new ticketing process has cut down on people trying to get tickets specifically to resell them:

"What we're doing is making some great strides in eliminating the scalping of student tickets," he said. "What we're most pleased with is the students who were buying tickets and trying to post them on eBay 15 minutes later, that part of the population has been eliminated from the student ticket process."

I agree that it is a good thing that these tickets should be made available to the kids who actually want to go to the games.  However, WHY THE FUCK HAVEN"T THE TICKETS SOLD OUT ANYWAY??!?!?!?!?!?

Aren't this year's seniors the kids who were freshman for the 2005 season?  Weren't they there when the Student Section was declared best in the country?  Why haven't these kids bought up all the seats for this year!?!

I'm just a little dismayed that the current students aren't foaming at the mouth for these tickets.  I would cut off a finger (tip) for season tickets!

If Sean Lee hears about this he is going to tear you limb from limb (he is a bear-man after-all).

So come on freshmen and sophs, get fired up and buy some fucking tickets!  WOOOOO!

PSU Sunday on BTN

The BTN just tweeted me that this Sunday will be Penn State day on the BTN.  I have been scouring the network for when they will replay the Blue/White game.  Apparently, it will be Sunday.  Set your DVRs if you don't already have it and sit back and bathe in sweet Blue and White excellence.

Great Expectations

In preparation for the 2009 season it is important to evaluate what
one is expecting out of the 2009 season.  It is important to
distinguish expectations from prediction; expectations are where you
have set the bar for a successful season where as predictions are what
you consider to be a realistic outcome for the season.

I've recently been chatting with my main man, the Juleser, about
expectations/predictions for the 2009 season.  Juleser came right out
with the prediction of 12-0 and then the Lions stomp Oklahoma in the
title game.  Pie in the sky?  Maybe.  It is also what I dream of at
night.  However, this is merely a prediction.  It may be a glorious,
wonderful prediction but a prediction nonetheless. On the other hand,
expectations are the dividing line between success and failure.

My expectations for the 2009 season is: 10-2.  I think if the Lions
get 10 wins you can consider the season a success.  10-2 would put the
Lions in contention for the Big Ten Title (though probably missing at
10-2).  Anything less than 10-2, however, I would consider an abject
failure.  9-3 or 8-4 puts the lions at around 4th in the Big Ten and
settling for some incredibly shitty bowl game.  This would be
terrible.  However, anything better than 10-2 would be complete gravy.
11-1 puts the Lions in position to win/share the Big Ten Title.  12-0
means the Lions should win the Big Ten Title out-right and put the
Lions in position for a National title.  I'm not predicting the Lions
playing for a title, I'm just saying anything worse than 10-2 is the
worst record which Penn State fans should still consider acceptable.

High expectations are good.  High expectations mean the program is
running well and the fan base is demanding a high quality product be
presented on the field in exchange for ever higher ticket prices and
the hundreds of dollars I mindlessly spend on Penn State Paraphernalia
nearly every day!  The pressure of great expectations will forge
excellence in the crucible of the off-season.

Buckeye Hates My Satellite Dish

Mrs. GOOS and I recently bought a house. Last Monday, I took the whole day off of work to host the bevy of installations that need to occur whenever you move into a new house (internet, cable, etc.). The Direct TV guy shows up and initially informs me that he doesn't see a good spot to put my brand new hidef satellite dish. The house is surrounded by trees and he doesn't see a good spot to bolt it to the roof. Well, we take a walk around the property and he discovers that an older satellite dish was mounted on a post around the side of the house and it had a perfect window to the southwestern sky so as to obtain crystal clear hi-def entertainment. Awesome. All he has to do is sink a new pole and mount the HD Dish because the old post was to small to support the HD Dish. No Problem. He hooks it up delivering me tasty HD sports a mere two hours later.

Well, the next day I'm out working in the yard when I see this ghoulish looking old bastard coming right for me from the front of my property. He says hello and tells me that he is my neighbor. More specifically, he lives across the pond (our house sits on a pond) and is really upset because the new dish is ruining his "view". Now, the dish sits on our property, and is probably about ten feet away from the side of our house. It is also directly in line with the old dish and post which has been there for what appears to be quite a while. He goes on to explain that merely being able to see this dish ruins his view and has upset him to the point that he has to descend upon me from across the pond in order to try to get me to take the dish down. I tried to explain to him that there has always been a dish here and I know that it this dish is a bit bigger but it is mounted on our property and is not hanging out in front yard obscuring his view of the pond or the golf course but just that he can merely see it and that regardless of whether I moved it or not he would always be able to see the dish.

After coming over to scold me about my awesome new dish he sees that I am wearing a Penn State T-Shirt. "Penn State, huh?" The ghoul mutters. "Yup, class of 2002" I respond. "Oh, that is good. I'm a Big Ten fan myself." The ghoul replies. "I'm a big Ohio State fan." A silence hung heavy in the air between us. I think to myself, of course you are you feckless douche. You hate all things that are good and holy, including, sweet HD sports!

So you see, I now live next to a giant turd. Hooray!

Student Section Not So Fired Up!

With student ticket pre-registration underway we have the numbers on just how fired up the Students are to jam into Beaver Stadium and go fucking crazy for 8 games!  The answer: slightly less than last year!  Wait, WHAT?

The Collegian is reporting that Student Ticket Pre-Reg is DOWN over last year.

Myford could not provide exact numbers but said "just under 40,000" students registered this year, while "more than 40,000" students registered last year. There are only 22,000 tickets available for students every year.

I am completely disappointed.  How is there less interest in seeing the games after the team won the Big Ten last year (for the second time in 4 years)?  I suppose I will have to console myself with the fact that there are still nearly twice as many registrations as there are seats available.  After all, it could be a lot worse.  We could be where Pitt is at as far as attendance.

Time to man up, Students!  Get fired up!

What Concerns You Most?

What is on your mind the most about the upcoming football season?

Is it Joe's Hip?  Or, even less relevantly, how much money Joe makes?

Could it be the weak schedule?

Or might it be the untested nature of the Offensive Line and the Secondary?

Yeah, it has got to be the O-Line and the secondary.

Penn State will be a good team this year, however, it will depend on how well some inexperienced players fare at these key positions that will determine whether the Lions can win the Big Ten and possibly have a chance to play for the National Title.  Penn State opens the season with three patsies (Akron, Syracuse, and Temple) at home before being tested when Iowa comes to town.  The development of the defensive secondary and the offensive line during these three games will be critical to how the rest of the season progresses.  Similarly, the Iowa game will be an excellent early season barometer to determine how high PSU can fly.

I'm a little nervous already.  However, my spirits have been buoyed by the recent acquisition of a HDTV and an HDDVR.  The combination of which will bath me in Hi-Def PSU-goodness all season and into the off-season.  Life will be good.
