Nick Saban Can Eat A Nut

I received this angry email from a long-time friend and lover of the blue and white, The Brewer Patriot.

Anyway, apparently Mr. Saban ruffled The Brewer's feathers and I received the following rant in my email as a result. Enjoy.

“Coach Paterno is probably one of the greatest coaches of all time in college football,” Saban said during his press conference, “not in terms of how many games he’s won, but how he’s contributed to the game in so many positive ways.”

The first part is bad. "Probably one of the greatest"? Get over yourself, just say that he is one of the greatest and move on. And the second part about "not in terms of how many games he's won" is shitty too. It IS in terms of how many games he has won, by it's very definition. He has done so many other things as well, but is also the winningest D-1 coach in history. It is something I see a lot of people say, that he has helped college football which is obviously true, but they pass over just how good a football coach he is too.

His quote would be much more accurate by these simple changes, "“Coach Paterno is one of the greatest coaches of all time in college football,” Saban said during his press conference, “not just in terms of how many games he’s won, but also how he’s contributed to the game in so many positive ways.”

In other news, I like getting fired up about small things.

Yes, yes he does.

LET'S GET FIRED UP (over small things)!

Great Expectations?

The off-season is the time for speculation and dreaming of the glory that awaits in the coming season. That's why we posed a question regarding how Penn State was going to fare in the 2010 season.

The possible results were that Penn State wins the following number of games: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12?

Over 180 votes later, 22% of our readers think that PSU will win 8 games. 35% believe that PSU will claim 9 victories and that 21% are convinced PSU will win 10 games. Any of these outcomes are perfectly plausible.

Personally, I think that PSU will win 8 games this year based on the facts that PSU is inexperienced at quarterback and unproven on the offensive line. This, combined with the fact that PSU has a murderous road schedule leads me to believe that PSU is going to fall 4 times this year.

However, the folks who believe that PSU will win nine games aren't really optimists, rather, they simply believe that PSU will win all the games in which they are favored. Certainly not unreasonable position. Really, nobody should be surprised regardless of the outcome of this season.

One thing is for sure, this season should be a great ride.

Drake Fighting Basketball Recruit

According to the CDT, Curtis Drake was cited for fighting in front of McDonalds on East College Avenue. Who was he fighting, you may ask? PSU Basketball recruit Taran Buie (younger brother of Taylor Battle. Apparently they were:

...reportedly throwing punches and shoving around 1:21 a.m. Sunday.
On a Sunday? Really?!?

Is this a big deal? No. Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. Is the Drake now in the Doghouse? You bet.

While some may love the Drake, obviously Mr. Buie hates the drake.

Hopefully Drake finds his way out of Joe's doghouse before the Alabama game as the Lions will need his diverse talents in the first big game of the year.

How Will the Lion's Fare?

The off-season has been thankfully quiet which has left us with little to talk about since the Blue/White game. However, now that the preseason magazines are out it really has me thinking about expectations for this year's season.

What can and should we expect out of the 2010 Lions? The Lions certainly have a tough schedule with three intimidating road games. One must also remember that the Lions have a number of unknowns coming into this year; QB and offensive line being the most glaring. This is not to say that these areas will be weaknesses, however, we simply do not know what we will get.

Which leads me to ask, how many games will PSU win this year?

Eight wins is a very safe bet with up to nine wins being a good year, ten wins being a great year. Likewise, PSU has a real potential to win six or seven games. So, cast your votes to so we can see where the Blue-White Faithful stand.
