The football season is upon us and the pageantry and tradition of college football will soon be here. Penn State enters the 2006 season with a number of question marks on both offense and defense. These questions prove troubling for bloggers and pollsters alike and, I’m afraid, the game against Akron will not answer any of them for the pundits and critics. If Penn State plays well it will merely be because they were facing an overmatched Akron team. If the team struggles than the doubters were correct in their doubting.
The line on the Akron game is PSU -17. My prediction for the game is:
PSU: 38
Zips: 17
I’ve heard it said by coaches and commentators that after several starts a team is no longer inexperienced. This year the learning curve will have to be much shorter than it was in 2005 (PSU gets a big test in week 2 instead of week 5). The time for arguing over whether PSU will continue its winning ways from 2005 is over. Now is the time for the team to prove it on the field and for the fans to give the team everything they have.
In short, it’s time to don your White-Out T-Shirt, sit back, and cheer like a maniac for the only team with basic blue uniforms, black shoes, and no names on their jerseys!
