Paternoville, the Past, and Predictions

On the eve of the most anticipated Penn State home-game of the year I'll take a moment to reflect on the season and what PSU needs to do in order to win. Oh, and a little Paternoville!

The hopes for the season started sky high only to be brought crashing back down to Earth with a tough loss at Notre Dame. Penn State rebounded only to lose two weeks later to a still-unbeaten Ohio State team. While the Lions have won every game except for two road-games against then top ten teams they have fallen out of the top 25.

(I don’t know why Penn State fell out of the rankings with those losses being their only two? LSU has two losses, oddly, the losses came on two road games against then top ten teams (Auburn and Florida). This isn't really to claim that LSU is overrated but, rather, to illustrate how fickle the pollsters are.)

Penn State got a big win on the road against the Golden Gophers. Could that game have been the kindling moment this year's team needed. Am I claiming that the Minnesota game is this years Northwestern game? I wouldn't doubt it.

In order for Penn State to beat the Wolverines they will need to play their best game to date. The defense needs to have a day similar to the one they had against Tosu. The offense needs big production, especially in the red-zone. If Penn State continues to struggle inside the twenty Penn State simply has no chance to win. But when the White-Out is rocking, the stars align, and the offense and defense are as fired up as the fans, PSU can win.

PSU: 20
Mich: 17

If you don't think the fans at PSU are ready for the Michigan game here are some pics from Paternoville. (from 10/12/06, find the rest here)

GO STATE! WHITE THEM OUT!
