Purdue, A Retrospective

The Lions pulled out a quality win on the road against the Boilermakers on Saturday. While the score was 12-0, PSU was in complete control the entire game. The Defense played an excellent game holding one of the best offenses in college football scoreless. The offense was its usual, clunky self. Tony Hunt, however, was a bright spot rushing for 142 yards on 31 carries. PSU really strapped the yoke to Tony and rode him all the way to the "W" in this game.
A major problem for the Lions was the large number of penalties against the Lions did not help a team which struggles with offensive consistency. Some of these penalties occurred in the red zone, a recurring theme this season.

Morelli showed no real signs of improvement this week. However, I'm sure this was partly because of the breezy conditions in Indiana. Morelli passed for 182 yds. on 14-31 passing, not exactly captain accuracy but at least he didn't turn the ball over this week.

What jumped out to me as I watched the game was the increased involvement of the FBs. Both Matt Hahn and BranDon Snow had some solid carries and were involved in the passing game. I wonder if their new involvement is part of a new scheme or if Morelli is finally starting to check down from his first looks. Either way it was an effective new weapon for PSU.

Next week PSU has to travel to Camp Randle to take on the mighty Badgers. At 8-1 the Badgers should be a handful, especially at home. They'll probably have some kind of imitation of the White-Out occurring in the vain hope to sip from the cup of Penn State's excellence!

Gimme that shit, son!

GO STATE BEAT THE BADGERS!
