As you already know, Beaver Stadium is a tough venue for opposing teams. The student section is raucous and it is tough for Quarterbacks to be heard on the field. Well, things just got a bit more difficult for teams coming to play at Penn State.
Andrew Barnard, a PSU Graduate Student, basically mapped the stadium's acoustics to determine where cheering fans would be the most effective in conjunction with the acoustics inside the stadium. Based on this information, Penn State is is moving 20,000 students into the southern end-zone. This is where these 20,000 screaming maniacs will do the most good.
The research goes on to say that this information will reduce the effective range of a quarterback's voice by six inches.
This. Is. AWESOME!
See video evidence here.
The stadium, already one of the loudest in the country, just got louder without adding a single seat. This is unbelievably awesome. This is the sort of thing that makes me so glad to be a Penn State fan. I mean, the school is so supportive of the football program that it gerrymanders the student section in order for the stadium to be as loud as possible? That is fucking great.
GO STATE!

Awesome unless you are one of the season ticket holders in the South end zone for 30 years and now must move!
