Drake Fighting Basketball Recruit

According to the CDT, Curtis Drake was cited for fighting in front of McDonalds on East College Avenue. Who was he fighting, you may ask? PSU Basketball recruit Taran Buie (younger brother of Taylor Battle. Apparently they were:

...reportedly throwing punches and shoving around 1:21 a.m. Sunday.
On a Sunday? Really?!?

Is this a big deal? No. Is it ridiculous? Absolutely. Is the Drake now in the Doghouse? You bet.

While some may love the Drake, obviously Mr. Buie hates the drake.

Hopefully Drake finds his way out of Joe's doghouse before the Alabama game as the Lions will need his diverse talents in the first big game of the year.

Jay Paterno Is Now Blogging!

Jay Has A Blog. It is called the HD Journal. There was much rejoicing throughout the land.

The blog is essentially an extension of Jay's activities on Twitter as he will be able to expand on the questions folks submit to him via direct messages.

All we can hope for is that Jay drops some tasty knowledge nuggets on our domes during the off-season. Honestly, is there anything else to do during this but hang on every word Jay Tweets or blogs? I suppose we could hold our collective breath until Joe acknowledges twitter but it would just leave us vaguely purple and unconscious.

I am fired up.

Top Ten Things Joepa Is Doing This Off-Season

Top Ten Things Joe Is Doing This Offseason:

  1. Joe hangs out at the Creamery just to let people know that the Peachy Paterno is actually named after him and NOT Jay.
  2. Recording a new workout video: Working Out The Joe Paterno Way. It is really about 60 minutes of Joe Paterno doing toe touches and hurling a medicine ball at a helpless Jay Paterno.
  3. Screaming encouragement at Sue Paterno while she cuffs, irons, and folds twelve identical pair of khaki pants.
  4. In an effort to help remedy his road rage, Joe is cruising the local highways for stranded motorists. Upon finding a hapless traveler, Joe helps by nailing fresh horseshoes on the wheels, proclaiming them good as new.
  5. Joe recently moved in to 609 Packer Hall in an effort to get to know the incoming freshman at PSU. The football God was received warmly but after two straight weeks of power-drinking and feats of strength his welcome wore thin. “I don’t think I can chug a beer and run all the way downstairs and then back up without puking.” Proclaimed frosh Timothy Galloway (English). To which Joe responded: “Oh, do you need to get your purse first?.”
  6. Taking Comm 497G. Joe did no work but still received a high grade after handing in a tablet which read only: My name is Joseph Vincent Paterno and I built this goddamn university with my bare hands.
  7. Joe is joining the training staff in an effort to improve the training table for the football team. A typical breakfast now includes: 4 raw eggs, a half pound of bacon, and a loaf of bread made from the bones of his enemies.
  8. Turning special olympic athletes into actual olympic athletes.
  9. Asking pedestrians to challenge him to jump over something, anything. Then winning and asking for nothing in return but respect and a 4 year commitment to PSU football.
  10. Constantly testing to see which liquor mixes best with G2. This way Joe can stay hydrated and well lubricated all day everyday.

Baker To Be Jailed?

The Collegian is reporting that the District Attorney who is prosecuting Chris Baker has filed a motion to revoke Baker's bail. Baker was out on bail in the off-season fight at the Meridian apartment complex, a condition of which was to not commit any new crimes, and now that more criminal charges have been filed he might find himself back in the pokey.

I was willing to give Baker the benefit of the doubt on the first charge stemming from the off-season fight. However, now that he has racked up multiple separate felony charges we are starting to see a trend.

How will Joe and the staff handle all this? If Baker is jailed until his cases go to trial it might not matter one little bit. In short, Baker might be lifting weights this spring but it might not be with guys in blue and white but rather guys in orange jump suits.

Blue White Roundtable: Last One

This is going to be the last BWR for the year season. We'll be back of course from time to notable time during the off-season: for example, a player is involved in an off campus fracas involving assault, burglary, and various other felonies, the Blue White Game. For now, BSD has brought us this weeks questions. My responses are below but please frequent these other fine sites for their responses.

Let's start off with a positive note. When you look back on the 2007 season five or ten years from now, what will be your fondest memory? It doesn't necessarily have to be Penn State related.
This is a Penn State blog so this is going to be a best PSU-related memory. I went back to State College for the PSU vs. Tosu game. It was an excllent time. It could probably be best summed up through a picture (as it is worth 1000 words [and I drank about 1000 beers!]).
Hell. Yes.
What should the Big Ten conference consider as its highest priority this off season?
It should be to get the Big Ten Network onto most cable providers. What it will actually be: to attempt to belittle the other conferences. This will make the Big Ten look AWESOME!
Clark or Devlin? Whose camp are you in and why?
Oh man, I don't know. I know some people say that they are equal athletes but that Devlin is the better passer. I, however, have no idea who is better at what. From what I've seen, Clarke looks like an excellent ground threat (which is more than I've SEEN from Devlin). It seem I'm in the Clarke camp (if only by default).
Which position not including quarterback is your biggest concern looking ahead to 2008?
I really have two and both are on defense: Linebackers and Safeties. Both seem a little thin. I know what you're thinking: "JB, this is Linebacker U and we have Sean Lee who is going to fucking dominate this year!" And you're right. We do have Sean Lee and he is going to dominate. But he is going to need help and I don't know if I know who is the other 100+ tackle linebacker on the roster for '08.

Lightning Round

Who is the early favorite to win the Big Ten in 2008?

Ohio State. Or so will the experts and the "reasonable person" predict. However, this is not a reasonable blog, so it has got to BE PSU!

I mean, this is the author of this blog. What do you expect?

How many Fulmer Cup points for Penn State this summer?

12.

(This one credited to WWN)Now that the offseason has begun, what will you keep you mind occupied with until fall practice?

Well, There is recruiting and signing day. Always a favorite of mine. Then there is Pro-Day workouts, the Draft, and the Blue-White game. Lift For Life. Summer Practice and then some more fuckin' football!
