Penn State came out of the gate firing and showed its quick strike offense by putting up seven points in their first three offensive plays.
The offensive line dealt well with a complicated and unusual 3-5-3 defense. The receivers played very well despite the poor conditions. I think that AMMO played well in the first half but seemed to struggle in the 3 & 4 quarters. This was probably due to some good adjustments by the Zips and the poor conditions in a dripping wet Beaver.......Stadium (my girlfriend's joke not mine).
The Defense looked ok, the LBs and DBs put some big hits on the Zips. The D-line looked good against the pass but looked vulnerable against the run. I won't jump to conclusions but Akron is not known for its running game.
The special teams were probably the weakest part of PSU's game. With a blown fake-field goal, a dropped snap on another field goal, and finally a roughing the punter call the special teams could use some work.
All things considered I grade PSU at a B against Akron. I think the running game will benefit from Joe releasing BranDon Snow from the doghouse and the more in-game experience Morelli gets the better he will be. Now we have to root for the Irish to beat GaTech so we can beat them next week!
GO STATE! Bring on the IRISH!
