All News is Bad News

At this point in the season all news is bad news. This, however, would be bad news at any time of the year. The buzz started to build earlier in the day over at RUTS, but, at this point, Fight On State has given a lot more substance to what started as mere conjecture. FOS is reporting that Defensive Tackle Ed Johnson will not travel to the Outback Bowl. Big Ed has been suspended for violating an "unspecified team rule". RUTS was reporting earlier that the suspension was for testing positive for drugs. There is no mention, however, of the reason for the suspension in the FOS story.

As an update, The Collegian is reporting that Johnson has in fact been suspended. Guido D'Elia, Penn State director of branding and communications confirmed this to the Collegian and had this comment:

"I'm sure he's disappointed," D'Elia said. "I wish it wasn't the way it is. But it is the way it is. Nothing much anybody can do about it. Team rules are team rules, and we've got to stick by them and so does he. Everyone knows that."

D'Elia said the suspension was related strictly to football and not the doing of any other branch of the university.

This doesn't shed any light on the reason for the suspension but it certainly confirms what has been reported all day.

Losing Ed is going to be very tough on a Penn State team that will need to bring pressure to disrupt the Tennessee passing game.

GO STATE! STEP UP AND PLAY HARD!
