Kermit Buggs (the new safeties coach, not the velvety amphibian)

Penn State announced that Kermit Buggs will take over as the new Safeties coach after Brian Norwood's departure to Baylor. Not surprisingly, Buggs is an internal promotion.
In his fifth season at Penn State, Buggs has served as Coordinator of Player Personnel the past two seasons. Among his responsibilities have been serving as a liaison between the coaching staff and academic support staff, coordinating the freshman mentorship program and assisting in the coordination of on-campus recruiting. From 2003-05, he was a graduate assistant coach with the Nittany Lions.

Buggs is now not only the Safeties coach but also has the best name of any person associated with the program. The Safety position has been a real strong point of the program over the last several years so Buggs will need to continue the tradition of big play safeties at PSU.

PSU likes to promote from inside the program so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. I can find no fault with this hire. There isn't a lot of info out there about Mr. Buggs so hopefully everything will work out for all involved.
