Trials Joined, Baker Could Be Jailed

There is another chapter of the Baker, Bowman saga unfolding this week. The CDT is reporting that the trials have been joined for the two wayward ex-players. So they will both be tried in the same proceeding. This gives the prosecution a number of advantages, particularly with regards to statements either of the players may have made.

Also, Baker will appear in court again on Friday where the judge will hear arguments to reject his bail. As you may remember, Baker was out on bail for his involvement in the PSU player brawl from the Meridian apartments last April. As he is now facing more felony charges he allegedly committed while on felony release, his likelihood of remaining a free man seems slim.

Nothing beats an update on criminal proceedings in Happy Valley. Sigh.

Timmons, Others "Excused" from Team

The Collegian is reporting that Joe has excused Knowledge Timmons and two other unnamed players. BSD already has a post up.
Team spokesmen Jeff Nelson and Guido D'Elia confirmed last night three players have been "excused from the team" but would not offer any further information.
Though, this may be a temporary suspension and could be largely determined by the outcome of Timmons' hearing in front of Judicial Affairs. The other two players have not yet been named but it is a good bet that Baker and Bowman have also been asked to clear out their lockers as all of this is centered around the HUB fight and they are the other players charged in that debacle.

Baker, Bowman Bound for Trial

Baker and Bowman were back before a Judge today on re-filed felony charges stemming from the HUB fight. The Judge at the newest hearing held that probable cause did exist and to send this matter to the County Court for trial. The CDT has a story. This is easily the most disturbing recantation of the fight that I've heard to date:
At the hearing this morning, Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane elicited additional testimony from four witnesses who said they saw Baker and Bowman kicking or stomping a man as he lay on the ground, surrounded by about 15 other men.
That is just terrible. Stomping a man as he lay on the ground? Why not stab him? I think that would be good.

Baker & Bowman Charges Refiled

The Center County District Attorney has decided to refiled charges against Baker and Bowman for the HUB fight which occurred back in October. (WJACTV has some video of very official looking papers!) The felony charges were originally dismissed for lack of evidence by Judge Carme Prestia back in December, however, the charges are back and better than ever!

I don't know if this counts towards the Fulmer Cup. An argument could be made either way. The incident certainly did not occur during the off-season, however, charges were filed after the end of the season. Decisions, decisions.

Players Involed in HUB Brawl

Ok, this is kind of complicated and I'll try to go through it as best I can.

The CDT is reporting on a fight in the Hetzel Union Building (HUB) which started at around 1.48 Am and involved as many as 10 people.

In yet another CDT report Paterno had this to say about the image of PSU football:
"I don't think there's anything wrong with the image of the program."

Joe, there isn't a problem with the image of PSU football but if all of these reports are even partially true there is an ACTUAL problem with PSU football. These ridiculous antics need to stop!

Further in Joes presser Jeff Rice (a blogger for the CDT) is reporting that Joe then broke this news for us:
"I've been alerted there might have been a couple football players involved in a fight, to what extent, to what degree, I'm not sure yet."
As for the fallout of this, Laschout.com is reporting that we should be expecting Indefinite suspensions.

Not good. Not good at all.
