Pryor Heisman Hype Overblown?

Our evil doppelganger over at Eleven Warriors claims Terrelle Pryor as a front runner for the Heisman Trophy.  Really, there are lots of people who are talking about TP as a legitimate contender for the Heisman.  I don't disagree that TP is getting the most Heisman hype of any other player in the conference.  I also don't dispute that TP will be the leader of one of the best, if not the best team in the Big Ten.  However, for Pryor to deserve serious consideration as the nation's best player he will have to show substantial improvement from 2008.  I'm not discounting Pryor as a candidate, however, we need to cool down the rhetoric of Pryor being the Nation's best player as he wasn't the even the best player in the Big Ten last year let alone the country.

I'll give you his 60% completion percentage is great and 12 TDs to 4 Ints is a good ratio.  Also, over 630 yards rushing and 6 rushing TDs isn't anything to sneeze at, especially, as he averaged 4.5 yds/carry.  Before we give TP real consideration for the Heisman we will have to see him play with consistency especially against good defenses and while on the road.  I'm not saying that TP can't earn consideration as college football's best player, however, nothing last year demands that we deem him one of the best players in the country before 2009 begins.  Also, consider that 7 of Pryor's TD passes came in two games (Troy and NW)

Also, I don't hear anyone pimping Clark for the Heisman and, (gasp), Clark's numbers are better than Pryor's are from 2008.  Clark passed for 19 TDs, nearly 2600 yards, 10 rushing TDs.  To be fair, Clark did throw 6 Ints. and didn't run for nearly as many yards as TP.  However, DC-17 was definitely the better QB in the 2008 season and he will be the better player in 2009.

GO STATE!

GET FIRED UP FOR DC-17 AND 2009!!!!

TP wasn't even close to being the best player on his TEAM last year.

Personally, I want to see a whole lot of Sean Lee introducing TP to the ground.

I think the hype is a year early. Now that every team in the league has had a look at him their defenses will be better suited to defend against him. I look for him to be hit with the sophomore jinx.
