Scirrotto Gonna Cook You Some Soup, Bitch!

I completely missed this earlier in the week, however, The Collegian has a recipe for Toscana Soup up which it attributes to Tony Scirrotto. Check it out:

First, I would not have pictured Tony "street fighting" Scirrotto as the type of man who would serve you up some soup. Second, I'm startled Joepa didn't seize on the Opportunity to promote some Milano!

Now, if they had a recipe for Posluszny's Perogies I would be eating them right now!

Scirrotto Speaks!

The Collegian spoke with Anthony Scirrotto and he spoke about the resolution of his criminal proceedings.
"I'm real happy," Scirrotto said, waiting his turn in the tiny rectangular room with a few others around him. "It's a lot of stress off my shoulders. Now I can move on with my life and try to gain the respect that I had before this whole incident occurred."
I'm sure it was. We're all glad it's over too.

On how he handled himself during the season:
"I basically became a hermit," Scirrotto said. "You know, it's college and there's people having fun that aren't really in the right mindset, so anything can happen, whether you provoke it or not. I have just been staying out of those types of situations."
See, this makes me feel bad for Anthony. I went to PSU and lets just say that I had an awesome 4 years. I never had any legal trouble but it does show you the intense scrutiny these kids are under. It is also quite clear that football is extremely important to Scirrotto and he did the right thing and has been laying low for almost a year. Other players, Baker I am looking in your direction, could learn from how Anthony handled himself after finding himself in trouble.

The article goes on to say that #7 felt better prepared in 2006 than he did in 2007 and basically attributes that to the criminal proceedings. Imagine an even more experienced, better prepared, bigger, stronger, Scirrotto prowling the defensive backfield in '08. That is something to get excited about!

The Scirrotto Chapter of the 2007 Spring Fight Is Closed

Anthnoy Scirrotto has taken a plea deal. He has plead guilty to Defiant Trespass, a misdemeanor, for his role in an off-campus fight last April. All it took was 10 months and one full season to resolve these charges. If you want all the gritty details you can check out the CDT and the Collegian.

I am compelled to show some love to RUTS who completely beat me to this story.

The only question left is how will Joe react to #7 actually pleading guilty to a crime. I really don't know that Joe will do. I'm sure he has known what Scirrotto's involvement was for quite some time and that this probably won't lead to any further serious Paterno-related-repercussions. But still. Could Joe nail him with something?

Over at RUTS he rails against the prosecutors in this case for bringing. This is completely fair and deserved. However, lets not leave the defense attorney's out of this. Check out what McGlaughlin, Scirrotto's attorney, had to say about this:
"I struggled, quite honestly -- I struggled with entering a plea," McGlaughlin told Centre County Judge Bradley P. Lunsford. "I still think this is an appropriate ARD case. I respect Mr. [Michael] Madeira's decision, but I disagree with that decision forever and a day."
I don't think he struggled with anything. He did a great job for Anthony. He got several extremely serious felony charges dropped down to a minor misdemeanor in which his client will pay a fine and do some community service. He did a great job but I don't think there was even a little bit of struggling with this offer.

Congrats Anthony! You beat the man!

Scirrotto To Plead Guilty

The CDT is reporting that Anthony Scirrotto will plead guilty as early as next week. The article doesn't come right out and tell you the terms of the agreement but apparently Scirrotto admitted to the trespass charge when he uttered:
"Scirrotto admitted to going inside knowing he was not permitted to do so, police said."
Though, there seems to be little evidence that big #7 actually assaulted anybody. Odd's are he will probably plead guilty to Criminal trespass and any other charges will be dismissed.

The bigger question is: What affect will this have on his eligibility to play and what will Joe respond with?

Scirrotto didn't miss a minute of playing time because of the charges but will it be different if he admits guilt to a crime? Will Joe suspend him? Temporarily banish him, a la Baker, Bowman, et al?

The defensive backfield is already starting to look pretty skimpy with King going pro and last year's transfers. If Scirrotto faces serious discipline the backfield could be a major problem for PSU in the fall.

New Trial Date for Players

With all the excitement of the Michigan game this weekend it is easy to forget that Scirrotto and Baker are still facing criminal charges. However, Post-Gazette is reporting that the trial date has been pushed back to December.

As far as implications for football go, it pushes the distraction back to last the entire season. It also will be weighing on these young men during bowl season.

CHARGES AGAINST SCIRROTTO DROPPED!

Fight on State is joining WMAJ 1450's reports that the most serious charges against Anthony Scirrotto have been dropped. Two lesser charges are still being considered.

This couldn't have come at a better time for a program battered by misbehavior. Now all Anthnoy needs to do is make it past whatever further punishment Joe and Judicial affairs have up their sleeves.
