Getting Fired Up!

Just re-watched PSU vs. Tosu 2008. It is as awesome as you remember.

Navarro was a goddamn bear. The thought of teams having to account for both him and Sean get me all pumped.

What really stuck out to me though was how (relatively) early in the game TP's fumble was. In my mind it sticks out as the play of the game and I remembered Rubin poking the ball away late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

While it was the play of the game, the fumble occurred in the 3rd quarter and PSU was trailing at the time! The next drive is where Devlin leads the team down the field and then pushes the ball into the end-zone himself.

Which leads me to mourn the loss of Devlin all over again. Mr. Devlin was a good player who knew the offense and could clearly play at a high level in college. It was clearly illustrated as he just steps right in and leads PSU down the field on a game winning drive, on the road, on national TV. The guy could play.

If you need a reminder as to why offensive linemen are some of the most important players on the field just go and watch the last quarter of this game. Shipley and the gang completely took over the game. They just pushed the Buckeyes out of the way. The O-line is the reason why the Lions widened the lead to seven and probably won.

Also, they played Brandi Carlile's The Story which just made me go download it and get all fired up!


I feel like 2009 is going to be another good year.

Initial, Visceral Reactions To The Game

Wow. Two huge monkeys come off the back of the Nittany Lions in successive weeks. First, the Lions end a long losing streak to Michigan. Second, the Lions win at the Horseshoe for the first time in 30 years. This post is not about stats. This post is about raw, vaguely drunken, emotions.

Ohio State is a very good, if slightly predictable, football team. Tonight, Ohio State did not consistently move the ball effectively. Unless, of course, if it was third down. If it was third down it was almost a guaranteed 15 yard pass play. Odd.

Penn State has the best defense in the Big Ten.

Penn State seemed to wear out a good Ohio State defense.

TP looked like a Frosh late in the game.

As always....

Pat Devlin is the best backup QB in the Big Ten.

The offensive line and Royster got better as the game went along!

I am really incredibly happy.

Who hasn't played anybody now, bitches!

PSU Cruising, Tosu & Troy In Dogfight

Penn State got off to a slow start as the Owls held the lions scoreless for the first quarter. The Lions looked flat and sloppy. The early portions of the game were marred by mistakes and missed opportunities.

The second quarter, however, was markedly different. The Penn State offense remembered that they were allowed to score as they put up 28 31 points in the second quarter. Fuck, 31 points in a quarter? PSU thy name is explosivo!

I am getting the Tosu vs. Troy game on the Big Ten Network.

Pryor is starting and he has looked downright brilliant on a few plays. The Buckeyes have found their QB for the rest of the year. I shudder to think how good this kid will be in two years. Despite Pryor's flashes of brilliance, the Buckeyes are only up by 3 at home to Troy.

Is Beanie Wells the lynch pin to this team? Are they merely average without him? Did the USC game crush the spirit of Ohio State?

Pryor Visits PSU

Tyrrelle Pryor will be in State College this weekend. More specifically, he will be there to play in the PIAA AA Boys Championship game at the BJC. (HT: Gumbercules at BSD)

Whether this is an official visit or just an un-official visit it is still a great opportunity for TP to check out the campus and some of the facilities. However, TP won't get much of a taste of what PSU is like as all the students are off on spring break. For me, there is nothing better than State College on a crisp fall Saturday but, I guess a Saturday in March will have to do.

Lets also hope that Bradley and Joepa can grab TP and show him some of what PSU has to offer. I'm thinking a stroll through Holuba hall, standing at the 50 yd line of Beaver Stadium, Looking out of the Tunnel and taking in the 107,000+ seats. Maybe let him take a look at the newly available #1 jersey in the Blue & White. That would really get to me. This could be your jersey, the greatest jersey in all of sports!
If you are in the central PA region, I urge you to make your "PSU LOVES TP" sign, get your ticket to the game, and get the kid fired up for PSU!

Pryor Breathes New Life Into PSU's Hopes

It has already hit the wire that mega-recruit Tyrrelle Pryor is not going to sign today, Mr. Pryor is going to delay his commitment in order to take an official visit to PSU! (peep it at ESPN.com)

"He wants to give Penn State and maybe a couple other schools a fair shot by making a visit before he makes a decision that is going to affect him for the rest of his life."

This, to be perfectly honest, is huge for PSU. Three weeks ago it looked as though Penn State didn't have a prayer at landing the biggest recruit in both PA and the Nation. All it took was a visit from a living legend to bring PSU right back into the mix.

At this point, I think PSU has just as good a chance of landing Pryor as Michigan or the Buckeyes. So get ready Happy Valley. Polish those walls and get fired up!

Recruiting Is Awesome!

Letter of Intent day is upon us! Rejoice, for it gives us something to talk about during the beginning of what is a very, very, long off-season. It is like a tiny flame in the night; huddle around it and feel its warmth! Your wife or girlfriend doesn't understand! Your co-workers call you creepy for perusing a site where they talk about the physical attributes and wishes of 18 year old boys! Screw them! This is important, dammit!

If you are creepy enough to follow recruiting, and we all know that you are at least as creepy as me, you know that Tyrrelle Pryor will be making a decision (maybe) on where he'll attend classes in the fall. From all the gossip, it seems to be narrowed down to Tosu, Mich., and PSU as his final three choices. If you listen to the rumors, and you know I do, it seems that the Buckeyes have the inside track, followed by the Wolverines, with the Nittany Lions holding out a fools hope of landing the #1 recruit in the nation.

Believe me, it will hurt if PSU watches the #1 recruit in the nation (who happens to live in PA BTW) drift over to another neighboring school. It'll just hurt. If you can't keep talent like that in state there is a problem.

But lets be realistic, this is just another form of competition for us college football fanatics. A way for your team to "Win" during the off-season. If you land a good recruit over a rival team you have shown the world that your school is superior! The co-eds are prettier, the facilities nicer, and the football team with the most potential. However, these pre-season rankings have little to do with how a player actually pans out in college. It takes another dash of luck, hard-work, and perseverance for a recruit to emerge as a star in college.

In short, go ahead and get worked up over Pryor and the rest of the recruits. Lord knows, I already am. But remember that the season doesn't end on February 6th.

After scanning Youtube.com for a while someone has finally posted some video of the man. He looks like the real deal to me!
